Office of the Siamsinpawlpi Joint Headquarters, Lamka
Lamka, 13, March 2018
The Siamsinpawlpi Joint Headquarters Lamka (SSPP JHQ Lamka), taking stock of recent incidents, would like to extend our utmost support and empathy to our Zo brothers in Mizoram and our sister organization, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl who are victims of serious and senseless atrocities committed by the Assam Armed Police at Zophai, Bairabi, Mizoram.
The incident ensuing the construction of a mere resting shed for weary travellers on Zo Territory was totally uncalled for; it is beyond comprehension for the peace-loving Zo people to imagine the outcome if the said shed was built in Assam’s land. The reckless lathi charges on peaceful Zo students reek of bigotry and the news of physical abuse of a Zo woman journalist only two days after International Women’s Day further dismayed the Zo people the world over.
The SSPP JHQ Lamka abhors such premeditated acts of terror on unarmed students and the targeted assault on women, and humbly appeals to the concerned authorities, the Human Rights Commission, National Commission for Women and various sister organizations/rights-based organizations of the Country to take up the matter at the earliest, so that the officials responsible for bringing such a shame to the world’s largest democracy could be taught a lesson or two on human rights, the value of women and how much women are respected in democratic India.
The SSPP JHQ Lamka would also like to express its profound admiration and respect for the brave woman, as well as the various Zo student leaders who dodged such seething hatred on that fateful day.
The SSPP JHQ Lamka would also like to convey to the Zo people of Mizoram that they are not alone in this fight, and that their brothers and sisters from across the border and beyond are watching your every move, waiting to extend their helping hands whenever the need may arise because blood is indeed thicker than water.
